We have a very large male alpaca (190+lbs, over 5ft tall at his nose), and I've been finding it difficult to get the crown piece to fasten on him. The fiber on his head is so dense, and he isn't even in full fleece yet. The last time I haltered him, I couldn't get the crown piece past the 3rd or 4th hole. The noseband fits him fine.
He's a young (3 year old) male that we're going to be using for breeding, so I am going to need to have a halter that fits him for spit testing & breeding. What is bigger than an alpaca large, and will still fit him safely? |

please take a photo of the halter on your alpaca. It is much easier to offer advice about fit with a photo. Also if your nose band is not on the last hole (the largest setting) open up the nose band and you will find that you have more room in the crown piece. But please if you have a digital camera take a photo and upload it. If you have trouble send me the photo marty@camelidynamics.com and I will have a look and post it for you.

Thanks, Marty. I always have the nosebands open all the way when I halter. I tried haltering him again today, and I didn't have as much trouble getting the crown piece to close, even though he has more fiber on his head & neck. It was on the 4th hole, but I think I have enough room.
