Tried yogurt today...didn't mix, but it came out first...I think it may have helped on some of them for the taste, but a lot of them still choked. I am very nervous about them aspirating and causing pneumonia. Should I be concerned when they cough? It’s not for very long, but it makes me so nervous. I am trying to help them not cause another problem!! This is the part that I dislike about having alpacas...all the worrying
![]() I think I may try the applesauce tomorrow to see if there is any difference.

they cough, you cough it is not that big a deal. A healthy animal is not going to aspirate enough to cause a problem I don't think it is sick or unconscious animals that inhale larger amounts that have a problem. That said it is really a good idea to ask them to swallow slowly and put it in the cheek pouch not directly in the mouth.

I forgot to pick up applesauce so I stuck with the yogurt and just added a little more than yesterday and I made sure that I was in the cheek "pouch". It did help a lot. There was a just couple that coughed this time. My one boy still moves when I try to put it in his mouth. He is great as far as midline catch and he stands real still but as soon as I go for his mouth he moves all over the place and starts to flail around. I try to be light with my hands, but when I am trying to put it in his mouth, but it is hard to get it in and be light at the same time. Any other suggestions?
Also, my ivomec shots are due this weekend and my last day of albon is Sat is it OK to do both at the same time? Thanks,

Hi Mary - just be patient with your boy, breath and be light. I know it is tough - but if he really continues to avoid the situation, you may want to get someone to help you on this boy.
I don't like to give 2 meds on the same day. Although my vet thinks there is no issue - I am a worrier and I would finish the Albon on Saturday and do the shots on Sunday. Rose
