I was invited to bring alpacas to a church raising money for the Heifer Project, a charity I support. I really wasn't sure how my gals would respond to the moment when the sanctuary doors opened and a couple of hundred people walked into the gymnasium, but I was interested in finding out.
My alpacas were total angels. They met and greeted with aplomb; and then, decided to Kush. While I explained that I wished I knew how to ask them to do that on cue, I don't. They just do it when I stand around talking long enough. Meanwhile, little babies crawled up to say hi...and the alpacas allowed them to do that. They actually allowed the little kids to come close and cuddle up.
Then Jubilee rose to her feet, and someone worried that she'd been startled. I said, no, it's just time. They lay down for awhile, then they get up for awhile; the next church service was to start in a few minutes, so.....
Then I invited our hostess to come out in the parking lot, to watch them load up in the minivan. She couldn't believe they'd wriggle through a narrow space and just hop in like that.
One person asked me why my alpacas aren't like others she'd met. I said, the difference between these alpacas and those you need binoculars to admire is my teacher, Marty Bennett. Marty, can we alpaca breeders have a link to your web site from ours? I tell every new client to Google you.
I feel so much better, letting one of my alpacas go to a new home, if the new owners have found you.
love,
Nancy
