Marty,
I just had some blood drawn on one of my female alpacas for a pregnancy test. She is an animal that has been shown and was always quite calm and would stand still. She did not react well to the blood draw. She is a big animal about 150 lbs. She kept lunging forward, she even knocked me up against the wall. I was trying to hold her light, but as she would struggle I would tighten up to hold her still for the vet. I was just going to stop the process when, we finally did get a little blood from her. At this point, I made the vet stop and try to get the progesterone test from the small amount of blood. Any suggestions on how I can react differently in this situation? Next time should I give her some drugs to relax her?
