Hello Marty!
*
I have a quick question, and thought of you before asking anyone else's advice.** Four days ago our Peruvian import*had just come*back from a breeding session*and that night became deathly ill, she subsequently died within 30 hours, even tho the breeder and his helpers were out three times, an autopsy was performed and we're awaiting results.* It was very sad, and so sudden,*plus she has left behind a beautiful two month old cria.* We tried to give him whole milk (with some molasses on the nipple) but after three days of him refusing it we gave up.* He is eating pellets, hay, some grass, and drinking water.* We were told not to worry about nutrition so much since he's eating well.* Here's my million dollar question*- he's listless and sad (so are we) and our hearts are broken for him.* Is there any way we can help in his healing?* Are there special touches or sessions we should do?* He and the other two young cria used to pronk and jump and play every evening, and I know he needs time.* This is a new experience for us (never had a sick animal in our two-year old farm).* I know you're extremely busy and will appreciate even a shred of help for us.* We'll be forever indebted to you!** I always look to your book for great advice - thanks for your help.

Hi I am so sorry for your loss. And blast the bad timing that I was on vacation when your email arrived or I would have been back to you much sooner. I hope my book did give you some ideas. I would try to find a kind mom who will take him under her wing not nurse him but let him sleep with her and her baby. I hope this has happened. I would not try to leap into the breech and get him bonded to you that will only lead to problems and more heart break of a different kind. Let the herd help him and stay out of it for the most part. Hope this helps.
Good Luck. Marty
