Hi Marty,
Set up of kusher. I put him in a catch pen with the other two yearlings. He used to kush the minute you put him in the pen. He doesn't do that as much now. Get wand, put rope on him and before you are able to work rope and fit it he has kushed. I try to keep him up using the rope as best as I can to no avail. So, I then go on over and fit rope give little 2 sec break. do a little t-touch. Sometimes I will get grain. feed others, he will get up for food, but the minute that you want to do anything he's down (and the grain to get up only works once or twice. Another to get him up is to open the pen like he's going to be able to get out.... up he gets... close pen. (He's the one that my boss picked up and plopped into the catch pen almost the first time I wanted to work with him. Obviously he kushed immediately.) I always try to end the session with him standing and my getting the rope off while he's standing.... I have to be quick... The thing is that as you said we can't have a wrestling match we have to outwit them...
I was thinking of putting on the halter, he'll be kushed... let him just wear it... whether he's kushed or standing while I work on the other yearling ( my prize pupil). The only thing is that to not have the other yearling go barn crazy when I walk her, I've been letting the other two yearlings out in the pasture where I walk Turp. That means that he will be loose in pasture with halter.. Is that ok? Any suggestions??

HI, My suggesting is that you go ahead and halter him even if it is kushed attach a lead open the catch pen door so that you go out to an aisle way and get going. Letting him loose in the pasture wearing the halter is fine. I assume you take it off when you are all done leading the other guy... hope that helps. sounds like he is getting into a habit of kushing so try to do things differently so that you break that habit. you could also try working from the right.
