I thought you might enjoy hearing a report on our efforts to train our boys as ambassadors. We have had them on an outing to a retirement home, Christmas parades, and most recently we had a group of retarded adults visit our farm.

I don’t know how you feel, Marty, about the potential for Alpacas, but we find them extremely intelligent animals. They have great personalities and have just been a joy for us. It would be hard to express how much help your training and book have been in our efforts. Your methods have been a great benefit. Our problem now, if you want to call it that since it really is a good one to have, is that they are very easily caught, haltered, and led. We are miles beyond that.
Our star alpaca just about anything we ask of him. He shakes hands, gives us kisses, and an assortment of other tricks. He now has a vocabulary of 17 commands which he understands and responds to. My question is do you know of an advanced book on methods to get them to understand even more difficult commands. We would love to teach him to lie down on command for instance, or play with a ball.
Thank you so much for your help in all that you have taught me about Alpacas.

I love hearing about your exploits and I am so glad that my work has helped you with your good works. As far as your question I think you want to look up clicker training and Amy and Jim Logan they have done a lot of work like this and could help you with the technique. I am sure if you do a search on the net that you will find them. Good luck and thanks for the update!

I have been using Click and Reward with my alpacas, as well as Camelidynamics techniques. Some things click and reward works better, for other things, Camelidynamics is better. I would love to learn more about both methods! My 2 alpaca geldings will jump over obstacles on command, one cushes on command, both will go touch a ball or ring a bell. I would like to do more work with agility training and wonder if anyone has information about the types of agility training obstacles are used with alpacas. :p
