I can't seem to locate info on barn ceiling heights.
I have an existing structure that I'm hoping can be converted to a barn for maximum of 3 alpacas, maybe with 1 llama. What is the minimum ceiling height I need to ensure they are comfortable walking in/out of barn?
Minimum ceiling height for alpacas.
Minimum ceiling height for llamas.
I'm assuming I need to add a few windows to reduce the chance of them feeling 'boxed' in and allowing air flow.
Thank you

Jacquie,
Camelids seem to prefer areas with higher ceilings. That said, llamas will use structures with 5' ceilings quite comfortably in bad weather. Unless the weather is particularly bad, camelids generally prefer to be outside, even with quite adequate shelter.

I'd suggest a ceiling height that is comfortable for you and as many windows as makes you feel not boxed-in. If you do include windows, please make sure they are the non-breakable variety to prevent any injuries.

Windows and a high ceiling will encourage them to be in the barn more, but I'd do what makes sense to you. I'm sure they will use the shelter if they need it, regardless of the specifics. (:

Take care.

I am in total agreement. I would add that having an entrance and exit (two doors) will enhance the likelihood that the animals will use the barn. But truly they really are happier out of doors under trees for shelter.
