Marty, I so enjoyed your clinic. I have a management kind of question if you can help me. Is a block or loose salt mix better for llamas?
I am so pleased that the clinic was a good investment for you. As far as a mineral block. I don't really like blocks I think loose mineral is better. I would suggest putting your mineral out free choice and loose salt out free choice in two separate container so that your llamas don't have to eat salt to get the minerals. We used a product that is made for sheep called Ovatone 77 by Vigortone. I am sure you could find it on the net. But there are lots of llama specific mixes now. The main thing is that loose is much better than a block. Llamas don't lick well so a solid block doesn't really work as well as loose minerals and salt.
